Suitable for beekeepers with 20–100 colonies. Inner perforated basket 33 x 53 x 49 cm – suitable for approx. 21–23 frames (depending on frame size).
The Logar electric steam wax melter is designed for melting old combs. Melting wax with steam is quick, simple and effective.
CAPACITY: approx. 21–23 frames (exact number depends on frame dimensions).
DURATION OF A MELTING CYCLE = time to heat the water to produce steam + approx. 30 minutes (depending on the condition of the comb material).
The steam wax melter consists of:
- Square outer container with feet and lid,
- Inner perforated basket,
- Wax collection tray,
- Immersion tubular heating element 3 kW / 230 V with thermostat (30–110 °C) and dry-run protection.
The wax collection tray has a wax drain and a water fill/drain pipe (the water outlet can be closed with a blanking plug for disinfection).
As optional equipment we can supply casters with brakes that can be mounted into the prepared grooves in the legs.
MELTING OLD COMBS AND CAPPINGS WAX:
Before melting old combs, fill the water (approx. 10–12 L) through the refill pipe. Place the frames into the perforated basket, cover the container with the lid and switch on the heating element. The powerful thermostatic heating element is mounted innovatively in a recessed basin under the bottom of the melter, which reduces the amount of water required and protects the heating coil better against failure in case of low water. The heating element has a thermostat allowing temperature adjustment from 30–110 °C.
The water in the base of the melter heats up to boiling. The steam produced is directed through a pipe in the centre of the base into the perforated basket; the wax starts to melt and flows through the outlet into the collection vessel. Residues remain in the perforated basket.
Thanks to the steam outlet hose attached to the immersion heating element, the user is warned in time if the water level is low. When the water level falls below the level of the outlet pipe, steam begins to escape through the outlet pipe. Continue heating until the wax has fully drained. Then switch off the heating element, open the lid and remove the frames from the basket.
After the process the top bars are largely free of wax; residues remain on the bottom bars which must be cleaned. Remove the residues from the basket and, if necessary, insert new frames for another melting cycle.
DISINFECTING BEEKEEPING EQUIPMENT:
The outer container of the wax melter can also be used to disinfect beekeeping tools, equipment and frames. To do this remove the perforated basket and the wax collection tray from the container. Close the wax drain and the water refill pipe with the blanking plugs. Fill about 120 L of water, add an appropriate amount of alkali (e.g. caustic soda) and switch on the electric heater. Heating increases the effectiveness of the alkali solution. After completion the alkali solution can be drained via a ball valve.
