Suitable for beekeepers with more than 50 colonies. Capacity: 30–35 frames (depending on frame size).
The steam wax melter is designed for melting old combs and cappings wax using steam.
Melting old combs with steam is fast, simple and efficient. The water is not heated inside the melter itself but in a separate tank mounted under the bottom of the melter. This shortens the water warm-up time. The melter tank is insulated and protected by a stainless steel cladding, reducing heat loss and melting time.
CAPACITY = 30–35 frames (depending on frame size)
DURATION OF ONE MELT CYCLE = time to bring the water to boil + approx. 30 minutes (depending on the condition of the comb material)
Recommended for beekeepers with more than 50 colonies.
The steam wax melter consists of:
- insulated melting tank with lid and silicone gasket
- 14-liter steam tank mounted beneath the tank
- immersion tubular heating element 2.5 kW / 230 V with dry-run protection
- internal basket with perforated bottom
- cone insert – use only when melting cappings wax (allows improved steam circulation)
- 3 removable legs with wheels and brakes, mounted to the outer tank
The sloping bottom of the tank is butt-welded and welded without gaps so that the wax can drain completely. This makes cleaning the interior simple. A wax drain and a water refill pipe for the steam tank are fitted to the outside of the unit. Two handles are integrated for easy handling.
OPERATION
Before melting, fill the water through the refill pipe. Place the frames into the perforated basket, cover the tank with the lid, switch on the heating element and bring the water to a boil. The boiling water produces steam, which is fed through a pipe in the centre of the bottom into the perforated basket. The wax begins to melt and flows through the outlet into the bucket placed under the unit. Debris remains in the perforated basket.
Heat the water in the steam wax melter until the wax has completely drained off. Then switch off the heater, open the lid and remove the frames from the basket.
After the process, the frames are cleaned of wax. Remove the residues from the basket after melting and prepare the unit for the next frames.
You can use the same procedure to melt cappings wax.
UPGRADING THE UNIT FOR DIRECT UNCAPPING
With the purchase of additional equipment it is also possible to uncap frames directly on the wax melter.
For uncapping you can choose between a crossbar with a spike for uncapping with a knife or a double-sided uncapping stand for two people using uncapping forks. Additionally, you can place up to 10 frames for pre-draining on a frame rack with drip tray before spinning. This rack is mounted on the rim of the steam wax melter and saves space.
The wax melter must be thoroughly cleaned before uncapping. Honey separates from the cappings and drains through the perforated bottom of the basket. Once a sufficient quantity of cappings has collected, you can melt them directly in the steam wax melter using steam.
