The gas oxalic acid sublimator lets you carry out this task in an incredibly fast and extremely straightforward way.
Gas oxalic acid sublimator — temperature control
Our gas-powered oxalic acid sublimator does not include an integrated temperature regulator, but with the correct procedure the temperature can be controlled easily and precisely. Simply follow the steps below to achieve optimal sublimation results:
Flame setting: Use a low flame that ensures safe and even combustion.
Heating: Heat the sublimator until white smoke appears. This indicates the ideal temperature for oxalic acid sublimation has been reached.
Extinguish the flame: Put out the flame as soon as smoke appears. This prevents overheating of the oxalic acid and protects the sublimator from damage.
Application to the hive: Insert the sublimator into the hive entrance and wait until the smoke stops. The sublimator will remain hot enough to complete the sublimation fully without further intervention.
Repeat: For the next colony, fit a new cap with the required dose of oxalic acid. Ignite the flame again and heat the sublimator until smoke reappears. This shows the sublimator has reached the correct temperature; then extinguish the flame.
Our sublimator was tested by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Maribor, Slovenia. The comparison between our gas model and an electric device with a temperature controller showed that both systems deliver similar results with no significant differences.

The flexible hose supplied with the gas sublimator provides easy access to the hive entrance. This allows you to sublimate more simply, quickly and accurately.
Precise, well-thought-out manufacturing for excellent quality and reliable performance
The gas oxalic acid sublimator is produced from high-quality materials using modern technology, which delivers outstanding quality and reliable operation.
Advanced and precise design and production
The gas sublimator was designed using advanced machine 3D design tools and manufactured on highly precise CNC equipment.
Carefully selected materials
The gas sublimator is made from durable, lightweight aluminium, and the anodised surface provides improved acid and temperature resistance.
Color change of the sublimator
The gas sublimator is manufactured from aluminium and black-anodised. Anodising converts the top layer of aluminium into an oxide layer that offers excellent protection against corrosion, wear and acids. In this way the surface does not melt when heated and does not release unpleasant odours as conventional paints can at high temperatures. During use the sublimator may change color from black to brown-gold. This is expected and does not indicate a problem with your sublimator.
Great performance with a Kemper gas burner
The gas oxalic acid sublimator is suitable for use with burners having a nozzle diameter of 21.2 mm.
It was tested with the Kemper 1060 gas burner, which offers:
Piezo ignition system for safe and convenient lighting
Ergonomically shaped handle for comfortable holding during sublimation
A nozzle to regulate air intake and thus the intensity of the flame
We recommend using the gas oxalic acid sublimator together with a Kemper 1060 gas burner.
The gas sublimator can also be used with other gas burners, provided they have the correct nozzle diameter (21.2 mm).
Replacement cartridges are readily available
The gas burner uses threaded gas cartridges, which provide a secure and stable attachment of the head to the cartridge.
The cartridges contain a butane-propane blend, which allows the burner to operate even at lower outdoor temperatures. Replacement cartridges are widely available and can be purchased in many stores (e.g. hardware stores like Bauhaus, Obi, etc.). Of course you can also order them from our website and have them delivered to your address.
Order your gas oxalic acid sublimator today and enjoy the benefits it offers.
Dosing oxalic acid
The recommended amount is 1–2 g of oxalic acid per colony, depending on your veterinarian's or an experienced beekeeper's recommendation.
The gas oxalic acid sublimator set also includes a dosing spoon. About one third of the spoon corresponds to approximately 1.5 g of oxalic acid.
Pour the measured content into the supplied caps and you are ready to start sublimation.
For easier dosing you can also use oxalic acid tablets.
Instructions for use
The gas oxalic acid sublimator is practical and very simple to use. To help you get started we have prepared a short guide.
First, screw the gas burner onto the gas cartridge, then place the sublimator onto the burner and secure it using the supplied clamp.
Prepare the oxalic acid: measure about 1–2 g of oxalic acid into each cap using the supplied spoon.
Turn the sublimator upside down and fit a cap with oxalic acid onto it. The oxalic acid is still in the cold cap and not yet sublimated.
Turn the sublimator back to its working position so that the oxalic acid powder falls into the sublimator. If the sublimator is already heated, sublimation begins immediately and white smoke is emitted from the sublimator.
Insert the gas oxalic acid sublimator into the hive entrance so the smoke with sublimated oxalic acid can penetrate the hive. The sublimation process takes approximately 30–45 seconds to complete.
Safety warning
Important: Only turn on the gas burner flame briefly — just long enough for the central chamber of the sublimator to heat up and for sublimation to begin. This is indicated by white smoke coming from the sublimator. Then extinguish the flame. This reduces gas consumption and prevents overheating of the oxalic acid or damage to the sublimator.
When sublimating, use the lowest possible flame power that still provides adequate combustion. To achieve the lowest possible flame temperature, keep the gas burner's air inlet vents as closed as possible.
The gas oxalic acid sublimator is made of aluminium, whose melting point is lower than the maximum flame temperature the burner can produce. Continuous heating of the sublimator for several minutes at maximum flame power can cause irreparable damage to the device. It is therefore important to extinguish the flame as soon as it is no longer needed.
Caution! Hot!
The gas sublimator becomes very hot during use. Do not touch it without appropriate work gloves!
Protective equipment
Always use suitable respiratory protection when sublimating!
How to choose the correct 3M filter for working with oxalic acid vapours
Choosing the correct protective equipment is essential when working with oxalic acid vapours. 3M offers a range of filters that protect against hazardous vapours. For oxalic acid vapours it is especially important to select the correct filter class (ABE).
What does the ABE classification mean?
The ABE filter class protects against:
Organic vapours (A)
Inorganic gases (B)
Acid gases (E)
These properties make ABE filters ideal for protection against oxalic acid vapours. Look for the typical colour coding in brown, grey and yellow that indicates suitability for the ABE class.
Why choose 3M filters?
3M is a trusted brand known for high-quality personal protective equipment (PPE). To ensure maximum safety, always purchase genuine 3M filters and masks. Counterfeit products may not provide adequate protection and could endanger your health.
Recommended masks for ABE filters
3M half masks — lightweight and suitable for most applications.
3M full-face masks — provide additional eye protection and a complete seal for higher-risk environments.
Both mask types are compatible with 3M ABE filters and offer maximum comfort and safety.
Important tips for selection
Check the colour coding: Ensure your filter is marked brown, grey and yellow to provide ABE protection.
Ensure compatibility: The filter must fit securely to your 3M mask model.
Replace filters regularly: Follow the manufacturer's guidance to ensure reliable protection at all times.
With genuine 3M ABE filters and masks you are reliably protected against oxalic acid vapours and meet applicable safety standards. Always choose authentic 3M products to protect your health and ensure optimal performance.
