The gas oxalic acid evaporator is the work of experienced beekeepers who invested care, knowledge and practice into the final product. They understand the practical needs of beekeeping and have created a device that supports work safely, quickly and efficiently.

Colony management can be demanding. With this gas sublimator you can perform Varroa treatment by oxalic acid sublimation in a very short time with minimal effort.
Gas oxalic acid evaporator — temperature control
Our gas-powered oxalic acid evaporator does not include an integrated temperature controller, but with the correct procedure the temperature can be controlled easily and precisely. Simply follow the steps below to achieve optimal sublimation results:
- Flame setting: Use a low flame that ensures safe and even combustion.
- Heating: Heat the evaporator until white smoke appears. This indicates the ideal temperature for sublimating the oxalic acid has been reached.
- Extinguish the flame: Put the flame out as soon as smoke appears. This prevents overheating of the oxalic acid and protects the evaporator from damage.
- Application at the hive: Insert the evaporator into the hive entrance and wait until the smoke stops. The evaporator will remain hot enough to complete the sublimation without further intervention.
- Repeat: For the next colony fit a new cap with the required dose of oxalic acid. Reignite the flame and heat the evaporator until smoke appears again. Then extinguish the flame.
Our sublimator was tested by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Maribor, Slovenia. The comparison between our gas-powered model and an electric unit with a temperature controller showed both systems produce similar results with no significant differences.

Color change of the evaporator
At high temperatures the anodized surface may change color from black to brown-gold. This is normal and not a defect.
Excellent performance with a Kemper gas burner
The evaporator has been tested with the Kemper 1060. It is suitable for burners with a 21.2 mm nozzle diameter. We recommend use with the Kemper 1060, but it can be used with other burners if the nozzle fits.
Replacement cartridges are widely available
The gas burner uses threaded gas cartridges (butane/propane) which are widely available at hardware stores or can be ordered through our shop.
Dosing oxalic acid
Recommended amount: 1–2 g oxalic acid per colony (depending on veterinary or local recommendations). Approx. 1/3 of the supplied spoon ≈ 1.5 g.
Instructions for use
- Screw the gas burner onto the gas cartridge, place the evaporator on the burner and secure it with the supplied clamp.
- Measure roughly 1–2 g oxalic acid into each cap using the spoon.
- Turn the evaporator upside down and place a cap containing oxalic acid onto it. The oxalic acid is cold and not yet sublimated.
- Return the evaporator to the correct position so the powder falls into the chamber. When the sublimator is heated, sublimation begins and white smoke appears.
- Insert the sublimator into the hive entrance. The sublimation process takes about 30–45 seconds.
Safety warning
Light the burner flame only briefly — just long enough for white smoke to appear. Then extinguish the flame to reduce gas consumption and avoid overheating.
Use the lowest possible flame setting and close the air intake vents on the burner as much as possible.
Caution! Hot!
The evaporator becomes very hot during use. Do not touch it without appropriate work gloves!
Protective equipment
Always use a suitable respiratory protective device during sublimation!
How to choose the correct 3M filter
For oxalic acid vapors we recommend 3M filters of class ABE (Brown, Gray, Yellow). Use official 3M products for reliable protection.
